What is Slot Car Dragon Racing?
Slot Dragon Racing is a throttle contest.
A broader definition: Drag racing Slot Cars around a connected loop track. The starting line is also the finish.
But how can this be? You can’t Drag
Race around turns, its impossible!
That is true,
yes you can’t. The definition of Drag Racing is a contest of acceleration. In fact, the word “drag”
is taken from the term “main drag” which is derived from the early days of town building when the first order
of business would be to drag an iron grate back and forth over what would become Main Street.
Precisely why we don’t call it Drag Racing! We “Drag-on” a slot car
medium(a connected loop). Besides, what if someone dragged out a figure eight?
Actually, the Slot Dragon Format is the first Racing System to cater to Slot Cars solely as Slot Cars. Specifically, it
tailors to the fact that, unlike automobiles, Slot Cars are slot dependent and have no steering.
The beauty of Dragon Racing is in the recognition of what Slot
Cars are and perhaps more importantly, what they are not. Slot Cars are not indi cars, they are not formula one, rally, or
nascar. Slot Cars are not designed to race over long periods of time or distance.
Sure, you can put governors on the throttles, lower the voltage to the track, or simply
drive “safe”. But that’s not racing. Racing is caution-to-the-wind, balls-to-the-wall, all-out go as fast
as you possibly dare. If you go too fast, your car comes off the track. Hence the sport.
Slot Car Dragon racing is all about going absolutely as fast as possible. To
achieve greatness one needs to know their limitations. The only way to determine limits, is to exceed them.
Still thinking inside the slot, Slot Cars are not Dragsters.
It would be nice if they were, but then they wouldn’t be Slot Cars anymore. There is little human participation
racing cars that have no steering in a straight line.
In conclusion: Slot Car Races, like Drag Races, should be kept short. Slot Car Races, like nascar, should be around a connected
loop track. Slot Car Races, like Slot Dragon Racing, should be designed for Slot Cars only.
The result: a Slot Car throttle fest!
Now we do not expect clubs to tear down their huge multi lane tracks and change all the rules for singles eliminations.
We are targeting beginners with home sets as well as “tracks in the attic”. We are trying to get a new generation
of recruits in the groove.
I sincerely hope I did not offend
anyone. Anyone that does anything with a Slot Car,
may your God of choice bless you. If you have no god, may your higher power bless you.
If you have no higher power, more power to you.
Race, chase, live, give, love life.
